I have been overweight most of my adult life. I have tried every diet that has come along. I ate grapefruit ‘til I got sick at the smell of it. I ate soup ‘til I felt like one more bowl and I would float away. I even did the calorie controlled diets, the low carb diet, and the low protein diet. Nothing ever worked for me to lose as much as I wanted.
I wanted, and according to the average weight tables- I needed, to lose 50 pounds to be a healthy weight. The most I was ever able to lose, and this is giving it a good long time, was 25 pounds. That left me still at 25 pounds overweight.
Medifast sounded so good when I read about it. I didn’t ask my doctor about it. I figured that if there are so many doctors that promote it, it must be healthy. Well, I was wrong. At least for me. When my diet food delivery package came, I was very excited. I started it the next day.
I did lose weight, that wasn’t the problem. After I had been on the diet for about a week, I began to feel extremely light headed and unable to keep my balance. I thought I might have come down with something like an infection or a virus. When I went to my doctor after feeling ill for about three days, he asked me if I had changed anything in my daily habits.
I told him that I had been on Medifast for almost two weeks, and he gave me a strange look. Then he told me that if I had asked him about it first, he would have strongly cautioned me against it. He told me that some people, like me, can’t handle a diet so low in calories. He said that it could have ended up making me very sick. I’m hypoglycemic, and it didn’t offer me enough to keep me from being affected physically.
Then he recommended something that may not make me lose weight as fast, but would be more balanced and give me the results I wanted, without the light headedness. I stopped using the plan, and began my new one. When I recovered, I started to feel normal again. I wasted my time and money because I didn’t talk to my doctor first. That won’t happen to me again.
