To be completely honest I almost didn’t even bother to write anything today. Let’s just say I haven’t been the poster boy for follow through and I let it get me down.
On Monday after work we had a retirement party for one of the guys at the office and as usual there was nothing to eat that wasn’t full of sugar, fat and anything else that a fat diabetic guy should stay away from. Needless to say I didn’t stay away. I didn’t really eat all that much, just a piece of cake and a few nachos, but I worked through lunch that day and forgot to check my blood sugar. I guess you can see where this is going.
On the way to the parking deck I passed out and put a pretty good gash on my head. All I can say is thank God I wasn’t driving when it happened. I had to go to the emergency room & get some stitches and I have no one to blame but myself. The problem is that I got so caught up in how easy everything had been since I started Nutrisystem – getting diet food delivered, not having to think about what I was eating – I just dropped the ball in a big way and I got benched because of it.
Janet and I didn’t get to go for our walk on Monday (even though I’m pretty sure that she paced around the hospital enough to make up for us both) and then we got into an argument when I told her I didn’t feel like walking on Tuesday. She went for her walk alone and I sat on the sofa and watched TV.
You want to know what feeling sorry for yourself can do for you? Nothing. All it did was made me feel worse for being stupid. Right in the middle of NCIS I got my wakeup call. The Nutrisystem commercial with Dan Marino came on and I felt about an inch tall. When Janet got home I apologized and asked if I could share some of her chocolate dessert.
The rest of the week has gone pretty well, aside from my head being a little sore. Nutrisystem is great about letting me know what to eat and now I have been paying more attention to when I eat. When you’re an athletic college kid you can eat what you want whenever you want but I’m in my 40s now.
To make up for lost time I decided to step up my exercise routine a notch. Now I am getting up and walking first thing in the morning for 30 minutes before breakfast. I know it has only been a couple of days but I swear it works. I’m already feeling better.
I didn’t lose any weight at all this week but considering the week I had I guess that’s better than gaining. I think its time for me to use the forums at Nutrisystem to get some of that support I was so gung-ho about giving before. I don’t want to go through this again.
