Diet Food Delivery

By now we have all seen the commercials by popular weight loss program Nutrisystem diet food delivery program featuring such well known names as football star Dan Marino, star of “90210” (and daughter of TV mogul Aaron Spelling) Tori Spelling and even the comedian known to the world as “Larry the Cable Guy”.  They are all proud to say that they have lost weight with the Nutrisystem program and do their best to encourage you to do the same.  In this article we are going to look beyond the advertising and take an in depth look at the Nutrisystem company and their popular program that allows you to have diet food delivered to your door.

The History

The Nutrisystem company actually got its start in the early 1970s, selling a protein diet in liquid form.  Toward the end of the decade they abandoned their diet shakes in favor of selling pre-packaged portion controlled meals from their diet centers around the country.  What you might not know is that Nutrisystem declared bankruptcy in the early 1990s and was forced to shut down all of those brick and mortar centers.  When they reemerged in 1999, the Nutrisystem program as we know it today was born.  They became a publicly traded company and home diet delivery was their focus.

The Cost

According to a study in July of 2008, Nutrisystem users can expect to pay an average of $500.00 per month while on the diet food delivery program.  The study details the expenses as follows:

• $293.72 for a month’s worth of pre-packaged meal plan foods

• $198.40 for additional grocery items that are necessary to supplement the program including fruits, veggies, dairy and whole grains.

Nutrisystem is unlike some other diet food delivery services in that it does not charge a membership or enrollment fee to users and access to counseling, community forums and newsletters is free.  If you break down the math of this study’s findings, it averages out to about $16.67 per day or about $5.50 per meal – not including snacks!  When you add in the convenience, Nutrisystem home diet delivery is a pretty good deal.

The Food

Nutrisystem offers a variety of pre-packaged meal options and there is quite a bit of flexibility in the program to allow you to eat what you want (within the available choices) instead of having your meals dictated to you.  You are provided with a breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack for each day of the week and some customers have even complained that there was too much food for them to eat on a given day.

In addition to the standard food options, Nutrisystem also offers specialized meal plans for vegetarians and those who suffer from diabetes, making it an ideal option for convenience and health alike.  These plans – as is the case with all Nutrisystem meals – are thoroughly gone over by nutrition experts to ensure that customers are receiving the best quality nutrients.  This means that you will lose weight and attain or maintain good health at the same time.
